These times, they are a changin'...

ah bob dylan. you're crazy, and some of your songs are a little long, but your son is hot so youre alright by me.

now, i would like to take this opportunity to gripe about facebook. yes, our blessed facebook that we all love to do when we should be doing other things. to start said gripe, lets begin with a hypothetical situation. i am walking through a mall and bump into an old friend from college. we start the formal small talk, and come to find out this friend is now married or engaged. yay for them. isn't this the way it always was? you knew what was going on with your closest friends and when they were having momentous occasions, but the friendly acquaintances you never really found out about unless word of mouth told you or you bumped into them. but now... its EVERYWHERE.

i find myself very excited for these people that i do not know too well when their relationship status changes to engaged or married. but i will admit i find myself judging... "wait, haven't they been dating less than a year? facebook tells me a year... should they be getting engaged so quickly? uh oh, his pictures make him look like he parties a lot, thats no good..." i dont even KNOW HIM! i dont know their relationship... if people happened upon my relationship and looked at pictures of us on facebook, they would see a boy who had a mullet at one time in his life!!! (this was a dare, and i made him cut it before he met my parents) lord, what people must think of me! and then i find myself thinking "oh lordy, this cute 'pose with my ring' picture will hopefully remind me to get the nails done if i ever get a rock on my finger... whoooeeee!"

facebook is everywhere. i hear old ladies talking about it at the gym after their water aerobics class and they are allll over it. and i have to laugh. i remember when it was only for college folk, and now my grandma is so in love with facebook and all of its awesomeness. but facebook totally opens us up to be judgmental without really knowing the facts. and without really realizing that you are being judgmental. and I am being judgmental, and that is something my grandma would write a disappointed little note about to me on my wall. i hope im not the only one- i would feel like a total a-hole, but im pretty positive im not alone on this one.

in closing, if you are happily engaged, post it on facebook. i know i will... i will probably obnoxiously do so before making any calls, although my girlfriends threatened to kill me if i did that. and judge away... because thats exactly why anyone posts anything on facebook...
