and i am not quite sure what to think about it.
to be quite honest, i am being a big whiner. i worry about what other people will think in regards to this, which is something i do NOT do. i could care less what people think most of the time. however, i feel like i am re-experiencing that time in my life when i had braces, and every other contraption you could think of in my mouth, horrible skin, frizzy hair, and an unsure way about myself.
of course, this isn't the case. im in a job where my students are actually stoked for me that i am going through with this. they think its a way to be like me if they have braces... hah.... i am in a relationship with someone who totally doesnt care that i will have holes in my mouth and metal all over for up to a year because thats just how cool he is. my skin has pretty much been completely clear since freshman year of high school, and i have total control over my hair now, thank god. but it will be awkward for a while, i am sure.
my previous orthodontist was a family friend. he was a former nba player with HUGE hands and a really soft voice. he told us that he did not like to pull perfectly healthy teeth, and so he didnt. my teeth were straight, but only temporarily, since my mouth is abnormally small and things could move verrrry easily. by college, i noticed a major difference. things were shifting, and i was ticked. now, there are some things i would like to correct, and his not pulling the teeth has caused more harm than good, unfortunately. my new orthodontist feels confident we can have things fixed within a year.
tomorrow afternoon, i get my braces put on. the day after that, i get four teeth pulled. why they do it in that order i dunno; something about guiding things into position. and that is how i will be spending my spring break... recovering from dental procedures and possibly nursing my hurt ego. ;)
although i am reliving a middle school awkward time, its on different terms, which is comforting. the end goal is in mind, and hopefully the process will move by quickly. plus i get those super neat-o wooden nickels again... woop!
